WHAT IS REGENERATIVE AESTHETICS?

The answer to natural skin restoration relies on two factors, collagen induction therapy and the addition of a biologic agent, platelet rich plasma (PRP). What sets this procedure apart from other microneedling treatments lies within the details. There are so many devices on the market today, but only one device SkinPen by Bellus Medical has received Class II clearance by the FDA. Because SkinPen carries the pedigree associated with rigorous clinical testing and is the only Class II FDA cleared microneedling device we feel extremely confident that our patients have the greatest tool available for their procedures.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) provides patients with a huge advantage over traditional lubricating agents applied to the face during microneedling procedures. Unlike lubricating gels, PRP provides a dense population of platelet cells full of growth factors that aid in tissue rebuilding and cell signaling. Since the true power of your PRP relies on the final concentration of platelet cells obtained, our PRP collection and processing equipment guarantees patients have the highest concentrations of platelet cells for their procedures.

HOW DOES COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY WORK?

The success of collagen induction therapy was first discovered in the art of using needles. Physicians observed patients who’d received repeated needle punctures from tattoo guns. The repeated needle punctures transformed scar tissues into healthier normal skin. This discovery led to the development and study of microneedling devices that we see on the market today. Around the same time researchers were also looking for other ways to improve wound healing and this led to the discovery of platelet rich plasma (PRP).

When you fall and scrape your skin the mechanical damage to the skin triggers a complex wound healing cascade that begins with platelet activation. Over time wounds heal but if the wound is more severe scar tissue develops. This change in the quality of the skin is a direct change in the collagen matrix of the skin (scaffolding).

As we age we may experience acne, wrinkles, sun damage, environmental exposure and countless chemicals that damage this collagen matrix. Overtime the collagen in skin can transform from healthy Type I collagen into unhealthy Type III collagen.

Collagen induction therapy introduces micro trauma to the skin to break apart Type III collagen and signal the appropriate wound healing cascade to rebuild healthy Type I collagen. With the addition of PRP, skin has the building blocks necessary to stimulate healthy collagen and elastin production. In SkinPen clinical trials patients saw consistent improvements in collagen formation with each treatment. By restoring the health and structure of your skin we can correct the effects of:

  • Acne Scarring

  • Aging skin - fine lines & wrinkles

  • Skin pigmentation changes - dark spots, melasma

  • Scars & Stretch marks

  • Hair loss - thinning hair
